Kiellegging in 1938, te water gelaten op 12-10-1939, in 1940 door de Duitsers in beslag genomen en in (Duitse) dienst stelling als “ZH 1” (“Zerstörer Holland 1”) op 05-10-1942. 
Proefvaart bij Danzig van 12 november tot 6 december 1942: gemeten vermogen 50100 pk bij 515 omw/min, gemeten snelheid 36 knopen. Gemiddelde diepgang voor 3,70 m, achter 3,15 m en schroeven 4,10 m, zeegang 2-3, wind 3-4. 
Door geallieerde torpedobootjagers zwaar beschadigd en daarna door de eigen bemanning tot zinken gebracht op 09-06-1944.

Renamed to “ZH 1”, she served most of her time as a experimental ship in the Baltic Sea. First attached to the 5th Z-Flottila, later reassigned to the 8th Z-Flottila, in 1943 sent to France together with “Z 27”. Used to covering blockade breakers and U-Boats. 
After the Invasion on D-Day, “ZH 1”, “Z 32”, “Z 24” and “T 24” were ordered to attack the invasion fleet on 08-06-1944. Near Ile de Bas, the German ships encountered the British destroyers “Tartar” ,”Ashanti”, “Eskimo” and “Javelin”, the Canadian “Haida” and “Huron” and the Polnish “Blyskawica”. During this battle, “ZH 1” was damaged severely, but was able to damage the “Tartar” until a torpedo fired by the “Ashanti” cut off the entire bow section. “ZH 1” sunk after its depth charges exploded. … …
